Website Technical SEO Fix for Local Businesses

Is your website quietly invisible to Google and to AI??

A slow homepage. Images with no alt text. No sitemap. None of it looks dramatic — but it's exactly the kind of thing that stops Google showing your site to the people searching for you, and stops tools like ChatGPT recommending you when someone asks it for a local business. I'll go through it page by page and fix what's broken.

Working. Just not where it counts.

Your website was built a few years back, it looks decent, and nobody's touched the code since. Fair enough — you're running a business, not a website. But Google's rules have moved on, and most sites like yours are quietly losing ground because of small technical things nobody ever goes back and checks.

This is what turns up on almost every site I look at — and it's the sort of thing that never gets fixed because nobody's actually looking.

Sound familiar?

You don't need to know what any of this means to know it's costing you:

You search for your own business and you're nowhere near the top — but your competitor is.

Your website loads slowly, especially on a phone, and you've never quite got round to sorting it.

You paid someone to build the site a few years ago and haven't touched it since.

You've got no idea if Google can even find half your pages.

You changed something — new photos, a new page — and rankings dropped and you don't know why.

Someone asked ChatGPT for a recommendation in your area and your business didn't come up.

None of these are dramatic on their own. Together, they're why the site's not pulling its weight.

What will you actually fix?

The technical basics that hold your rankings back: page speed, missing or duplicate meta titles and descriptions, broken schema markup, images with no alt text, a missing or outdated sitemap, and any obvious crawl or indexing errors. It's not a rewrite of your website — it's the unglamorous groundwork that makes the rest of your site work properly.

Will my site look different afterwards?

No. This isn't a redesign — it's fixing what's under the bonnet. Your site will look exactly the same to visitors. Google will just find it a lot easier to read, crawl, and rank.

What if my site has more than 10 pages?

The fix is capped at 10 pages — that covers a standard brochure site: home, about, services, locations, and contact. If you've got more than that, get in touch and I'll quote separately rather than cut corners on the scope.

What website platforms do you work with?

Most CMS-based sites are fine — WordPress, Squarespace, Wix and similar. That includes going into the code to fix things like heading tags where needed, which isn't as tricky as it sounds. If you're on something more custom-built, just check with me first.

What about big ecommerce sites?

That's outside the scope of this service — ecommerce SEO needs a different approach entirely. This is built for local service businesses with a straightforward brochure-style website.

How long does it take?

I aim to have the fix completed within one week. If it's going to take any longer than that I will get in touch.

Will this guarantee me a #1 ranking?

No, and anyone who promises that is lying to you. What it does is remove the technical barriers stopping your site from ranking as well as it could. The content and reputation side of SEO still matter — this just clears the groundwork.

Does this help with AI search too — like ChatGPT recommendations?

Yes, to an extent. Tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI overviews read your site the same way search engines do — through clean structure, proper schema markup, and clear page content. If your site's a mess technically, AI tools struggle to understand it just as much as Google does. This fix puts the same groundwork in place for both.

Hi - I'm Helen

I'm a digital marketing consultant based in Hertfordshire

I work with local businesses and tradespeople who are brilliant at what they do — but don't have the time, or the inclination, to figure out why their website isn't pulling its weight.

Most sites I look at have the same handful of technical issues sitting there unnoticed, quietly costing rankings. This service exists because it's a quick, affordable fix with a real impact — the kind of thing that should have been sorted ages ago.

No agency nonsense. Just me, getting it sorted for you.
